Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Can we beat the heat?

Greetings!

I hope you all are staying cool and hydrated this week! It’s certainly a challenge to do so in this extreme heat. As always, though, our farm crew is handling it with patience and grace. What a treat it is to work with such a positive crew!

Right now we’re in the midst of a lull in planting, which gives us time to take care of things like maintenance, weeding, cleanup, and fine-tuning our systems. It’s rare to complete a to-do list on the farm, but it feels nice to at least have a slightly shorter one for the time being! Especially when it’s this hot and humid— everything seems to take more time to complete when there’s a heatwave. The clouds today were a huge relief after such a sunny week.

I know I said this last week, but I have to reiterate- tomato season has finally arrived! They don’t mind this weather a bit! Cherry tomatoes are pouring in from the field and heirlooms are beginning to speed their ripening. I predict that in the next couple of weeks we’ll be up to our ears in tomatoes. There’s nothing better! A good tomato salad or sandwich really does the trick after a long day in the sun.

We’re also welcoming the arrival of a farm favorite and crowd-pleaser, lisianthus! This beautiful, rose-like bloom has an extraordinary vase life, and we’ve planted the full spectrum of colors this season. We’re growing more than ever before, and we are so excited to see them begin to pour in from the fields.
