Let's grow flowers!
Come visit the farm next month!
Greetings! How are you? The temperature rose and fell but we steadily planted and harvested lots of exciting crops on the farm. There was a big planting of currant trees (41!), gladiolus, sunflowers, nasturtiums and more and we're getting ready for another appearance at the JFX market this weekend.
We wanted to take a minute to share a little information about a new farmer with us: Peter Sparklin, a Baltimore native, worked on two other farms before finding us. He has experience growing vegetables and flowers organically so he's a perfect fit here at Two Boots. He has a true passion for flowers and has even started his own flower farm called Petal & Root Garden in Baltimore City on land that is attached to Whitelock Community Farm (where I used to work!). Yes, the farm world is super small.
Peter has been with us for about 4 weeks now and has jumped right in with gusto. He doesn't mind working really hard outside, he's mindful, and just a good soul. Oh, and he's the one usually writing this kickass newsletter! He will be working the Hampden Farmers' Market (starting May 7th) each week so come say hi!
Peter also brings his four legged companion, Kiwi, to the farm. She finds the warm cozy spots on the farm and tries to play chase with our dog Iris from time to time. It's all cuteness all the time around here. Now if the flowers were just ready to harvest already....
And hopefully some should be ready to harvest in late May, when we would like to formally invite you out to the farm for an open house and potluck dinner (aka Two Boots Farm Feast!) on Sunday, May 22from 12pm-4pm. Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly. We welcome you to join us in celebrating good food and the wonderful community that you are part of. We hope to see you there!
See you at the market this weekend! The Hampden market begins the first full weekend of May (Saturday, May 7 from 9am-1pm).
