The summer wind-down
Greetings, friends!
We’re enjoying the cool weather this week and soaking in the last of the slow summer season. Monday’s long, cool soaking rain was much needed, and the farm looks beautiful right now. The fields are absolutely abuzz with pollinators; a loud hum echoes through the rows. It’s exciting to see so many different pollinators visiting our fields, and neat to observe which species prefer pollinating specific crops. It seemed like it took them an eternity to arrive this year, but there are finally lots of monarch butterflies fluttering about, and many caterpillars feasting on milkweed. We’re also beginning to see more hummingbirds flit through the fields, and the inevitable end of summer arrival of a wide spectrum of caterpillar species. We share the farm with so many creatures, and in the grand scheme of things we really only see or identify a small number of them!
In the coming weeks we’ll be busy harvesting pawpaws and dahlias, but for now we’re tidying up loose ends and getting ready for the onslaught of our busiest time of year. There’s not much to say beyond that this week!
Tweedia, a type of milkweed beloved by bees
There’s a good chance this will be the last week to get your hands on our lisianthus!
We’re back at the JFX market on Sunday from 7:00-12:00.
This week’s market stand will feature bouquets, bunches of dahlias, eucalyptus, lisianthus, millet, rudbeckia, snapdragons, and sunflowers. The produce selection will feature edible flowers, spring mix, shishitos, and basil!
The flowers are stunning right now, and summer produce is rolling in! Stop by your local farmers market this week and pay a visit to your farmers.
Thanking for taking the time to read this and supporting our farm,

Swallowtails are everywhere these days! We see several different types of swallowtails on the farm each year.
