Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Flower Mart

Greetings!

It’s Flower Mart week and we’re in the midst of chaos on the farm. We do a substantial percentage of our annual sales during the weeks of Flower Mart and Mother’s Day, and each year is a little bit smoother than the last, but it’s still an utterly wild time. We managed to squeeze in a little bit of planting this week, but most of our time has been spent moving plant sale orders, harvesting, making bouquets, and getting things organized for Flower Mart. As lovely as life as a flower farmer can be, these next two weeks look like total carnage. Flower guts are all over the place by the time the madness subsides.

A handful of poppies.

Flower Mart

Flower Mart starts this Friday, May 2nd at 11:00 am! We’ll be there from 11:00 am-8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.

We are hoping that the rain holds off until after the market closes so that everyone can enjoy a full day of flower and plant related festivities. Fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc!

For the uninitiated, Flower Mart was first held in 1911 by the Women’s Civic League and is now hosted by the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy. Over the years, it’s become one of my favorite Spring events. There are workshops, vendors selling plants, flowers, and art, and the famous traditional Flower Mart lemon stick. The parklets surrounding the monument are set up with stages and performances throughout the day.

We’ll have a massive selection of seedlings for sale this weekend, including lots of flowers, hot peppers, and tomatoes. Like clockwork, we’ll have the first of the season’s peonies, as well as bunches of lilac and eucalyptus. And, of course, we’re making tons of bouquets!

My recommendation for a perfect Saturday in the city? Stop by the Waverly Market for your weekly veggie haul and a delicious breakfast from Blacksauce, then meander on down to Flower Mart to check out some workshops, music, and vendors. After that, hit up the Walters Art Museum or head on down to check out the Kinetic Sculpture Race. A perfect Baltimore Spring day!

Tuesday’s delivery van was packed!
