Summer Preparations

Greetings!

It was another hot week, and I think it’s safe to say that we’re in that period of time during which it stays quite hot for the foreseeable future. There’s a long summer ahead, and we’re ready for it! As difficult as it can be to adjust to the heat, summer is our slower season, as most of our florists don’t have many summer wedding clients. Things haven’t started to slow down too much yet, but we’re crossing our fingers for a bit of a lull in the near future. Spring was a whirlwind!

The farm is beginning to dry out after lots of rain, and we were able to knock out a lot of bed preparation this week. Next week we have a ton of planting to do. It’s time to get heirloom mums in the ground! We’ve got trays and trays of seedlings sitting outside of the greenhouse eager to get in the ground, and they’ll be quite pleased to be planted next week while it’s overcast.

We prepped beds this week for two crops that florists can’t seem to get enough of: currants and raspberry. Though each fruit is delicious in its own right, our florists are after them for the verdant green foliage. If we had 400 stems available of each crop every week, I think we could sell every single one! We’ve been cutting our existing plants so hard that they look like nubs right now, and we’re looking forward to establishing new plantings that will hopefully pump out many stems next year.

The fields are just about completely full of plants and the summer season will be rolling along before we know it!

Alstroemeria is the queen of June focal flowers! We're swimming in these sturdy, colorful blooms right now.

Last week’s bouquets.

Sunday Market

We’re back at the Baltimore Farmers’ Market this Sunday, June 15th from 7:00-12:00.

The build your own bouquet bar is around for the summer, enjoy it!

We’ll also have bouquets and bunches of alstroemeria, snapdragons, feverfew, lavender, delphinium, poppies, sweet peas, and the year’s last peonies!

Thanks for reading, and, as always, we appreciate your steadfast support.

Wishing you all the best,
Amelia, Elisa, and the Two Boots Crew
