Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Summer transitions

Greetings!

Though it’s still hot out, it’s not nearly as unbearable as it was last week, and we’ve managed to knock out a ton of field work. We spent Monday prepping beds and enjoying the cool, overcast weather, and that set us up nicely for a marathon week of planting and clearing out finished crops.

We’re finally cutting down the last remaining spring crops, readying the fields for late summer and fall plantings. The beds we managed to open up over the course of the past few weeks all have lovely stands of buckwheat emerging. The beds we clear over the next week or so will get covered with silage tarps for a couple of weeks, as we don’t quite have enough time to get a cover crop in before we’ll need to replant them. We seeded our fall planting of carrots early this week and transplanted the first round of ornamental kale.

Despite the current temps, we’re looking ahead to autumn. Everyone who works on the farm takes a vacation in August, so we’re hustling to get everything done before we’re light on staff starting next week. Once we’re all back from our vacations, a hectic fall season begins in earnest!

We’re excited to announce that Baltimore Magazine has named Two Boots the Best Farm-Fresh Flowers in Baltimore!

We’re honored to have received this award. We dedicate a lot of time and energy to growing and designing high quality, long lasting, beautiful flowers, and it means so much to us to be recognized for this work. What a treat!

Baltimore Magazine also just released an article about pawpaws, featuring Two Boots, our friend and pawpaw mentor, Jim Davis, and several other local pawpaw enthusiasts. Pawpaw season starts in just about a month!

This is the first season we’ve successfully grown snapdragons for mid-summer and fall. A huge win for us. We’re also loving this cherry caramel phlox.

We’re back at the JFX market on Sunday from 7:00-12:00.

This week’s market stand will feature bouquets, bunches of cosmos, dahlias, foliage, foxglove, lisianthus, millet, and snapdragons. The produce selection will feature edible flowers, cucumbers, spring mix, shishitos, and basil!

The flowers are stunning right now, and summer produce is rolling in! Stop by your local farmers market this week and pay a visit to your farmers.

Wishing you well,

Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots crew

Harvesting this rudbeckia was a highlight of my week. A cool, cloudy morning with a lovely view of the neighbor’s horses grazing.
