Welcome August
Hi!
This is Elisa! Usually Amelia writes the blog but I’m taking over this week as Amelia is on vacation.
This week has been flying by as I attempt to tie up loose ends with wedding proposals and our fall plans before I go on vacation next week. Things have been running very smoothy on the farm thanks to Karen and Jenna who are stepping in to help fill Amelia’s shoes while she’s on vacation. We are doing our best to work around the intense heat, deciding together how best to spend each day so we are not stressing our bodies and brains.
Next month, September, we will welcome pawpaw season. We expect to have a great pawpaw harvest this year. In case you missed it, there was a great article in Baltimore Magazine featuring our farm. Reporter Lydia Woolever did a great job telling the story of this native, tropical-tasting fruit that peaks such curiosity in our customers. It’s well worth reading! Check it out.

Spotlight: Amelia
Amelia first came to Two Boots in 2016 to help for one day as we built a new high tunnel (or unheated greenhouse). Amelia was currently working for Real Food Farm, an urban farm in the heart of Baltimore. She is now in her 5th season working at Two Boots and I must say, we owe a lot of our success to her! Amelia is thoughtful, caring and much more organized than I am. Running a business requires us to wear so many hats and it’s impossible for one person to be in charge of and have expertise in all things. We have made a great team over the years and together have grown as people, managers and farmers. Amelia is in charge of crop planning, making sure all plants get seeded, planted and tended to. She also makes sure we are harvesting what we need each week to meet demand. She has the best memory of anyone I know which is incredibly handy when running a farm. Above all, I want to say how good it feels to have someone that cares about this farm as much as I do. I always feel like we are in it together and that’s HUGE! Thank you Amelia!
When Amelia is not working she lives in Baltimore with her partner and cat, Wapsi, named after Amelia’s favorite tomato, the wapsipinicon peach tomato. In the winters Amelia is sewing up a storm and makes a lot of her own clothing!

2016 - When Amelia worked at Real Food Farm but came for the day to help us build this high tunnel.
Last month we hosted a centerpiece workshop at the farm. Our participants were turned loose the field to harvest their own flowers.
We’re back at the JFX market on Sunday from 7:00-12:00.
This week’s market stand will feature bouquets, bunches of dahlias, foliage, lisianthus, millet, and snapdragons. The produce selection will feature edible flowers, cucumbers, spring mix, shishitos, and basil!
The flowers are stunning right now, and summer produce is rolling in! Stop by your local farmers market this week and pay a visit to your farmers.
Thanking for taking the time to read this and supporting our farm,
Elisa and the rest of the Two Boots crew

Probably Amelia’s favorite flower - foxglove . This photo is from 2021.
Lisianthus - we are growing this flower in abundance. We love it because it lasts over a week once cut!
