Two Boots Farm

A family run farm and floral design studio in Hampstead, Maryland. We grow a wide variety of cut flowers and produce. We also have over 100 cultivated pawpaw fruit trees. We use ecologically sustainable practices so that future generations can continue to grow in healthy soil.

Cooler days

Greetings, friends!

Though we’re still a couple weeks away from the autumnal equinox, the air this week is crisp and cool, and we can certainly feel the season shifting. Early this week we got over two inches of rain, which the crops desperately needed. The rains ushered in lovely weather for the latter half of the week, which we hope will continue on for the next month. The dahlias are absolutely loving the change in temperature; it seems as though the size of our harvest doubled between this week and last. All of our crops seem much happier now that they’ve received a good soaking rain. After such a long, hot, dry spell, drip irrigation just doesn’t seem to cut it. We took advantage of the wet weather and seeded more cover crop this week and managed to get some transplants in the ground. Next week we’ll begin planting our hardy annuals— the first of our 2023 blooms!

Pawpaw season is officially underway, with the harvest growing a bit larger each day. Our first pop-up is this weekend, at the Takoma Park Farmers Market. We’ll also have pawpaws available at the JFX Market in Baltimore. The season is getting off to a slow start but there will be plenty more available in the weeks to come!
