To Market, To Market

Greetings!

Now that we’re fully in the swing of things on the farm, we’re ready to return to the farmers market. This year, after a two year pandemic hiatus, we’ll be back at the JFX market in Baltimore. We’ve missed the buzz and energy of this market, and we look forward to coming back! We’re making our return on Sunday morning, and we’ll be bringing plenty of blooms to brighten your homes.

We’ll miss our little market in Roland Park, of course, and we’re so thankful to Foreman & Wolf for facilitating such a fantastic market for the past two years. In the thick of the pandemic, it was a wonderful place to be, and we feel so lucky to have been invited to vend there.

We’re in peak tulip season, during which the last of our high tunnel tulips and the first of our field tulips are blooming at once. It’s a gorgeous time of year!

We’re continuing to pot up seedlings for our plant sales, and our greenhouse is filled to the brim! This week we worked through the vast majority of our spring seedlings and herbs, and started on potting up tomatoes and peppers! They’re eager to get out of their tiny cells and into larger pots. We’ll let them hang out in the greenhouse sizing up until early May, when the threat of frost has passed and they’re ready to make it into your gardens.

If you’ve been thinking about placing a seedling order from our online plant sale do so soon! We’ll be taking down the shop at the end of the month so that we can pack orders and take the remaining plants to markets. In addition to a wide variety of veggie and herb seedlings, we offer an abundance of specialty cut flower seedlings that can be difficult for home gardeners to source.

As jam-packed as our greenhouse is right now, this time of year we’re always seeding more crops and taking cuttings to propagate. This week we seeded summer successions of snapdragons, rudbeckia, and phlox, and took cuttings of mums, scented geranium, and plectranthus.

We work in the greenhouse nearly every week of the year, and keep a careful eye on everything happening. If we don’t catch mouse damage or pest infestations early on, we can mess up our entire season! We take tending to the greenhouse very seriously, and try to check on it multiple times a day, ensuring that everything has the right amount of water, that the temperature is where we want it to be, and that all of the plants are as healthy as they can be.

We’ll have plenty of sweet mason jar arrangements for your holiday tables this weekend.

Sunday, April 17th marks our return to the JFX market, and we can’t wait to see you there!

This week’s market stand will feature tulip bunches, mason jar arrangements, dried flower decorations, and vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings.

If you aren’t a farmers market lover but still want to get a hold of our blooms, 2022 Flower CSA shares are still available!

Our Spring share will begin in a couple of weeks, and this year we’re also offering Summer, Fall, Full Season, and Dahlia shares!

CSA share pickup is available on-farm, at Motzi Bread in Baltimore, and on a porch in D.C.

We look forward to seeing you at the market!

Wishing you well,

Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots crew.
