Flowers Galore
Hello!
Despite the rocky spring weather we’ve experienced this week, our harvests are growing larger every day and our crew was finally able to accomplish some field work this week. With Flower Mart happening Friday and Saturday, Elisa and I have been holed up in the barn for the past couple of days, churning out as many bouquets and mason jar arrangements as we possibly can, while also arranging for weekend weddings and preparing lots of florist orders. Everything kicked into high gear this week! The next few weeks are some of the busiest of the season, with plant sales, Mother’s Day, and wedding season in full swing.
We made a ton of bouquets for Flower Mart! Featuring tulips, ranunculus, and dogwood, they’re some serious seasonal stunners.
I didn’t manage to snap a photo of the lisianthus planting, but check out these ranunculus!
Since it’s been in the low 30’s at night, we’ve been reluctant to do much planting this week, but we finally got our lisianthus in the ground, which felt like a huge accomplishment. We plant thousands of lisianthus seedlings every year, and it’s always a massive undertaking! Jenna, Karen, Dave, and Katie did an amazing job of getting it done while Elisa and I were holed up getting ready for Flower Mart.
On Friday, the crew will focus on preparing as many beds as possible so that everything is ready to go when we are able to plant next week. With a lot of rain in the forecast, we won’t be able to do much bed prep, but it'll be perfect weather for transplanting as many crops as possible.
In the next few weeks, we’ll plant out cosmos, zinnias, amaranthus, celosia, sunflowers, and marigolds— summer flowers galore.
We’re bringing two vans full of seedlings and flowers to Flower Mart this weekend!
I sound like a broken record at this point, but this weekend is Flower Mart! It takes place April 29th & 30th in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon Place. We’re selling loads of bouquets, mason jar arrangements, and bunched flowers, in addition to seedlings and hanging baskets. On April 30th at 2:00pm, Elisa & I will lead a lecture on how to grow your own cut flower garden!
We’re looking forward to the event; it seems like it will be a wonderful time! In addition to vendors selling plants, flowers and art, there will be educational talks, music, and delicious food.
Now is the time to be planting your gardens! Purchase your seedlings from local farmers who grow tried and true varieties and take care to supply you with the healthiest seedlings possible.
We’ve still got a few veggies kicking around here, although the only ones available at the moment are radishes.
We’re back at the JFX market on Sunday from 7:00-12:00.
This week’s market stand will feature mason jar arrangements, bouquets, vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings, and radishes.
Next weekend, we’re participating in Cylburn Arboretum’s Market Day on May 7th, and their ticketed Party on the Porch event the night before.
If you aren’t a farmers market lover but still want to get a hold of our blooms, 2022 Flower CSA shares are still available!
CSA share pickup is available on-farm, at Motzi Bread in Baltimore, and on a porch in D.C.
We’re now offering both small and large full season bulk bucket shares! This is a great option for those who wish to learn and practice floral design independently. Each bulk bucket comes with a selection of focal flowers, filler, and foliage, and features whatever looks best on the farm at a given moment.
We look forward to seeing you in the coming days!
Wishing you well,
Amelia and the rest of the Two Boots crew
On Thursday afternoon we were in a race against time to get the van loaded up with plants, bouquets made, and wedding design work finished. Somehow, everyone was all smiles! Here, Jenna and Karen are strapping in hanging baskets so they won’t fly off the wall as the van travels to the city.
And here’s Elisa, working on boutonnieres for a wedding order.
